FAQ

What are the benefits of massage therapy?

Physical: Massage improves circulation, increases joint flexibility, and aids in healing scar tissue due to injury. It also eases chronic muscle tension and pain, reduces physical fatigue, and relieves muscle spasms and cramps. It promotes deeper and easier breathing, reduces blood pressure, and relieves headaches due to tension. Massage nourishes your skin, and improves posture and body awareness.

Mental: Massage helps to create a calm state of alertness while reducing mental stress. It can create a tranquil mind, and increases the capacity for clear thinking.

Emotional: Human touch is the most fundamental of all healing techniques. Massage therapy creates a sense of being cared for and nurtured by enhancing a sense of harmony, and increasing energy flow at all levels.

Why do you ask so many health questions?

Massage is generally considered safe and natural, but when you schedule your appointment, please mention any health conditions or allergies you may have. Massage can usually be adapted, but there are certain health circumstances where massage should be avoided.

What kind of lotion or oil do you use?

Simply Bee uses only 100% organic jojoba, grape seed, or apricot kernel oil. Hands and feet receive a non-greasy, natural blend cream that is hypoallergenic. It contains purified water, vegetable based emulsifiers, vitamin E, along with botanical extracts such as aloe, chamomile, and comfrey root extract.

What should I do before the massage?

Limit you intake of caffeine, sugar and other stimulants.

You will be asked to fill out a health-intake form. Save time by printing and completing the form, and bringing it with you to your appointment.

Time will be taken to discuss your goals and answer any questions or concerns that you might have. If there are specific areas that are causing you problems and require additional attention, please let me know. Also, if you have a music preference or if you would like to have a certain aromatherapy scent added to your massage oil, this is a good time to make your special requests.

After the intake, the therapist will leave the room so you can disrobe to your level of comfort. It is easiest if you remove all (or most) of your clothing, but your comfort level is the most important. Note: You will be covered with a sheet and a blanket during the entire massage, and only areas that are being worked on will be undraped. At no time will you be exposed in an inappropriate manner.

Please turn off your cell phone or pager, as it is time to relax.

What should I expect during the massage?

Let go and relax. The key to massage is relaxation, so allow yourself to enjoy the experience. Slow, deep breathing will provide your body with much needed oxygen while signaling your body to let go of its tensions.

Provide feedback. If you have a tender spot that needs extra attention, bring it up so that it can be addressed. If you would like more or less pressure during the session, please say so. If everything is great, just lie back and relax.

What should I expect after the massage?

After the massage, the therapist will leave the room, giving you whatever time you need to re-orient yourself and get dressed. If at all possible, allow for some quiet time before you continue your hectic schedule. Life really can wait a couple of hours for you to return!

Drink plenty of water! Massage releases waste products and toxins from your muscles. Increasing your fluid intake lowers this toxicity and lessens the strain on filtering organs. It will also help reduce any soreness or fatigue from deep tissue work. A bottle of water will be provided.

Schedule your next appointment! When you make bodywork a regular part of your life, you are helping your body maintain a better state of balance. You deserve to feel better!
